LET COMMUNITIES LEAD
On December 1st, 2023, Beyond Hoops Africa and Street Talent Africa came together at the Dagoretti Empowerment Centre to mark World AIDS Day with a powerful community-driven event. Featuring music, art, sports, and honest dialogue, the event celebrated the global theme “Let Communities Lead” while amplifying awareness around HIV/AIDS, breaking stigma, and promoting mental wellness.
In commemoration of World AIDS Day, Beyond Hoops Africa, in collaboration with Street Talent Africa, hosted a vibrant community event at Dagoretti Empowerment Centre under its Dare to Dream initiative. The event gathered athletes, artists, musicians, and community members to amplify messages aligned with the global theme: “Let Communities Lead.”
Blending music, art, sports, and open dialogue, the event raised awareness around HIV/AIDS, worked to end stigma, and highlighted the importance of mental wellness for those impacted by the disease. Activities included musical performances, spoken word poetry, gymnastics displays, and community-led discussions on testing, treatment access, stigma, and emotional support.

Artists and athletes used their platforms to share powerful messages of prevention, resilience, and hope — fostering an atmosphere of inclusion and empowerment. Community members actively participated, offering personal stories and strategies for building understanding and support within the neighbourhood.
The event served as a platform for education, advocacy, and solidarity, reinforcing the shared goal of ending the HIV/AIDS pandemic and addressing the social inequities that drive it. By embracing the theme “Let Communities Lead,” Beyond Hoops Africa and Street Talent Africa spotlighted the strength and leadership within Dagoretti — and the ongoing fight for health and well-being for all.
