Driven by Dreams, Powered by Purpose
We believe every young person deserves the chance to rise, lead, and change their world — and we're here to walk that journey with them.
Who We Are
Welcome to Beyond Hoops Africa (BHA), where hope and opportunity converge for youth across Canada and Kenya. As a registered nonprofit society in Canada, BHA is dedicated to catalyzing positive change in the lives of young individuals through the transformative power of sports. Our innovative programs, rooted in basketball, soccer, and life-skills training, serve as dynamic platforms for empowerment, education, and inspiration.
At BHA, we deeply believe in sports' inherent ability to uplift and unify people from all walks of life. Through our initiatives, we strive to amplify the potential and resilience of youth, prioritizing their strengths over perceived limitations. By showcasing their achievements, we instill a sense of hope and confidence, nurturing a limitless mindset.
“Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does.”
- Nelson Mandela
“We strive to amplify the potential and resilience of youth, prioritizing their strengths over perceived limitations.”
Furthermore, BHA stands firm in its conviction that sports should be accessible to every youth, irrespective of gender, financial means, or creed. We adamantly oppose the notion that poverty should restrict a young person's participation in sports. Thus, BHA has embarked on a mission to dismantle barriers for marginalized, racialized, and low-income families by providing essential sports equipment.
Through our inclusive programs and initiatives, we are committed to forging pathways for every young person to engage in sports, fostering a profound sense of belonging and empowerment.
Beyond our commitment to sports, BHA is deeply invested in environmental advocacy, climate action, waste management, and mental health. These core programs reflect our holistic approach to youth development.
We educate and empower young individuals to be stewards of the environment, actively participating in sustainable practices and climate change mitigation efforts. Our waste management initiatives encourage responsible habits and community involvement to create cleaner, healthier living spaces.
“We are committed to forging pathways for every young person to engage in sports, fostering a profound sense of belonging and empowerment.”
Recognizing the profound impact of mental health on overall well-being, BHA also prioritizes mental health.
We provide resources and support to help youth navigate the challenges of life, fostering resilience and a positive mental outlook through sports and life-skills training. We also partner with like-minded organizations, such as Meaning Minds, to create safe spaces and fight the stigma surrounding mental health in our communities.
